Forgotten Rural Crafts & Skills
The Forgotten Rural Crafts and Skills Project is funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund.
It is exploring rural crafts and skills that are in danger of being forgotten and teaching them to groups of volunteers who will cascade the knowledge to other people.
We are currently learning wood carving, food preservation including jams, jellies and chutney. Food smoking, sausage making, pickling and juicing.
Crafts such as patchwork, willow work, crochet, floristry, using herbs, hedgerow foraging and corn dollies are also in the plan.
We aim to cascade these skills down to as many people as possible and are particularly looking forward to working with a network of Ukrainian families and sharing different cultural experiences.
“A truly exceptional course, Learning new skills and growing in confidence”
“I’ve learnt a lot this term and amazed myself with the things I’ve been able to make. I’ve really enjoyed working as part of a team with a brilliant tutor. She breaks everything down in to manageable steps so I never feel overwhelmed.”
